Apollo's Lament

Not a fanart submission???

This was done for school. I had so much fun painting this. The project was about organic shapes and I found reference in Hyacinth flowers.

For those who aren't familiar with the Greek myth of Apollo and Hyacinth, I shall enlighten you.



Hyacinth was a beautiful young man and lover to the sun god Apollo. Hyacinth and Apollo were throwing a discus about and when Hyacinth ran to catch it to impress Apollo, it struck him and he died. Apollo didn't allow Hades to claim him, so instead he made a flower, the Hyacinth, from his spilled blood. There is also another version of the myth where the west wind god Zephyr was jealous that Hyacinth was in love with Apollo and not him. In this version Zephyr was responsible for the death of Hyacinth because he blew Apollo's discus off course.

Can't have a romance without a tragedy in Greek Mythology eh?
